Amy Todd | Caker & Stylist Wonder

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a baker, cake designer, stylist and photographer. I live in Auckland with my partner and two dogs Hank and Sumo; and we're working on a renovation at the moment. I am a confident, driven and very relaxed person with a love for art, which I found at a very young age.

When did you decide to get into the blogging industry?

I started when I left school but never got as into it as i am now. I use it as a creative outlet for myself - it is where I get to showcase the outfits and imagery I create. I call it creating magic.

How would you describe your style?

I would say my style is relaxed and classic with touches of glam and hippy here and there.

How do you go about planning your looks and where do you go for inspiration?

I will always plan my looks in the morning before work. My wardrobe inspires me with all its textures, patterns and colour. The key to feeling confident and comfortable in what you are wearing is to dress to your mood.

What were the priorities when you created a space for yourself at home?

Making sure I had loads of natural light, fresh air, a comfortable chair to sit in and a place for my mood boards so I am constantly inspired.

What are your favourite aspects of the space you have made?

The mood boards I create, the texture of my desk, the cleanness of the plants and energy from the crystals.

What would you typical day consist of?

To start my day, I hold each of my fingers for 10 minutes. This balances the energy in my body for the day. I head to the kitchen around 8am and create magic in the kitchen, fulfilling everybody's orders and come home in the afternoon or evening to continue work for the blog - whether it be a shoot for an outfit or creating a post. I also add in a bit of boxing and yoga somewhere in the day, take my dogs to the park and final thing for the day - make a delicious dinner for my amazing partner, while finishing the night off editing my images.

How long would the editing process usually take?

About 2-4 hours depending on how many images I took - which is usually hundreds.

Do you enjoy working from home?

Yes, absolutely love it, as I get to hang out with my dogs, Hank and Sumo, and my partner once he gets home. Also, it means that I can whip up some amazing food while I'm waiting for something to load on my computer.

Do you have any styling tips for our readers when planning their own space to work from home?

Books and magazines are a fun and cheap way to style your space, with them stacked either under your desk or on a shelf. Plants are great to decorate with because they give your room nice texture; it cleans the air in your home, which is fabulous for keeping you focused.

Where can we discover one of those delicious cake creations you have photographed in your space?

It's called Amy's Secret Kitchen, which is run by my sister Charlotte and I. You can find us online or by appointment. We create masterpieces with the finest ingredients for any occasion.
